At Hermitage Limestone we recognize the impact our operations can have upon the environment.
To reduce this impact we have put certain measure in place to ensure our operations are not a hazard.
Some of these measures include:
- Establishment of large sediment settling ponds to minimize run off into the Guanapo river
- Hermitage has recently rebuilt it's large sediment ponds to significantly increase capacity.
- Establishment of smaller sediment ponds and drains to reduce run off before it can reach our larger sediment ponds.
- Installation of misters and sprinklers to reduce air emissions.
- A well equipped service garage ensures optimal equipment performance, reducing our carbon footprint.
- On-site fuel and oil is contained in tanks surrounded by an impermeable bund.
- Collection and containment of all used or waste oil and fluids which are moved off-site.
- Our mining equipment and generators are fitted with engines designed to reduce emissions.
- Establish all operations around rehabilitation plans for the environment.
- Saving of soil and sub-soil material to aid the eventual progressive rehabilitation process.
- Hermitage Limestone has purchased an abandoned agriculture farm which we are restoring to arable land. This will assist us with progressive restoration works, help to off-set carbon emissions and assist Trinidad & Tobago with it's food trade deficit.
